Hi John, I found a reference to this registration: it is a BMMO S15 built at Carlisle Works, delivered 8/1962. I thought Midland was an operator, not so much a builder itself, but you learn something new everyday :)
BMMO also designed and built their own engines,one was a horizontal six cylinder unit. I believe they also experimented with air cooling in the late fifties, modifying one of their vertical engines and using a belt driven axial fan

Midland Red built most of their own vehicles (and a few for others) since 1927. This is an S15 type, a dual-purpose 'semi coach' based on the earlier S14 type bus. They are integral chassisless vehicles with Midland Red (BMMO) 8 litre diesel engines mounted underfloor. See bammot.org.uk for the largest collection of preserved Midland red buses.
